Home | Support You | Support After Loss | For Employers
From the earliest of loss to full term loss this is a staggering statistic. Whether your employee has experienced the loss directly or their partner has, we know parents can sometimes feel unsupported by their employers. We want to ensure that this additional stress is eliminated at what can be a very difficult and traumatic time.
Philip’s Footprints welcomes workplaces to come on board and look at how they can support their workforce. Working together, we can ensure your colleagues get support they need. Colleagues and line managers may also be affected and may need extra support.
Philip’s Footprints can offer a 1 hour training session to discuss the impact of pregnancy loss in the workplace. This includes how to support your employee and other staff, types of loss, language in the workplace, impact on performance and adjustments that may be required, practicalities, law and workplace needs.
We are working on a Pregnancy Loss Policy as a starting point for your organisation.
Whilst Jersey now has Parental Bereavement Leave, it should be noted that this is only from 24 weeks gestation onwards. Amendment 14 Employment (Jersey) Law ensures this is a Day 1 entitlement for bereaved parents (so from the first day they start work), statutory, 2 weeks of parental bereavement leave after the loss of a baby or child (including stillborn babies from 24 weeks). This is to be used in the first 56 weeks after loss, so includes that first anniversary which can be so very hard to bear.
Mindful not to put a financial burden on employers, these 2 weeks are unpaid however a payment scheme has also been agreed and will match the average weekly earnings of £920 (so £1,840 for 2 weeks per working parent).
Earlier loss can still be a traumatic experience for your employees. We have included some links to SANDS and the Miscarriage Association which may be useful, as well as our own Philip’s Footprints Short Guide for the Workplace.
