For many, the birth of a baby is a joyous time, but some families do not get to take their much wanted and already much-loved babies home and instead they are left with a devastating and profound heartbreak. At times such as this, bereaved parents need a safe space to allow them time to make memories and say goodbye.
We know from personal experience just how important the Family Room is – providing a refuge for parents, siblings and the wider family.
In 2022, as part of a larger refurbishment, the Family Room in the Maternity Unit was relocated and Philip’s Footprints stepped in again to help create the new room.
Together with the Maternity Team, we have created a peaceful space allowing families to spend time with their baby, holding them, making treasured, lasting memories and helping them begin to grieve the loss of their baby or babies.
Philip’s Footprints has also funded a CuddleCot for both the Family Room and Family Nursing and Home Care paediatric team. A CuddleCot is an innovative cooling system that gives the gift of time, allowing parents to spend more precious time with their baby and time for families to visit. Suitable for both premature and term babies.
